Finding Fun and Feeling Normal

With my birthday looming amidst the world craziness, I was feeling down and anti-celebratory. I wasn’t in the mood to have a gathering where everyone either made food to cater me, or I brought my own food to my party. I just wasn’t feelin’ it. So, once things opened up again in AZ I got on the internet to try to find a place where I could go out for birthday dessert like in days of old, pre-AIP style eating.

To my surprise I actually found a place! It was in the form of an ice cream shop in downtown Gilbert. Of course, when I experience such a great find, I have to share it with my people. It’s called Creamistry and it has 3 locations in AZ (2 are temporarily closed due to Covid-19 ramifications). Not only did they have AIP Plus/Paleo friendly ice cream, they had an ingredients list available online! To find it, go to their website menu, choose “The Scoop”, then “Menu” then scroll all the way to the bottom where it says “Allergens & Ingredients Statement”.

This particular place allowed a huge weight to be lifted off of my shoulders and here’s how: I didn’t have to bombard the ice cream shop staff with one hundred and one questions as to the ingredients in each ice cream base, while onlookers rolled there eyes thinking I’m sort of high maintenance diva, I didn’t have to deal with the frustration that comes with employees that are oblivious to the ingredients and, therefore unhelpful, and finally, I didn’t force myself to eat something I knew would make me sick, just to avoid group uncomfortableness. Those with 10,000 food restrictions like me, can relate to this hassle.

For those that can have cashews, the cashew base is pretty clean and uh-mazing. Mango Sorbet and Pineapple Sorbet are next. Notice I said pretty clean? That’s because there are sugars and thickeners involved. If you are in a strict AIP phase, this may not be the best option for you. If you are vegan, AIP Plus or Paleo this could be a great treat to have once in a while. I’d also like to mention that they do have a coconut milk base, but keep in mind, it contains soy.

Because of this little ice cream shop, my celebration was stress free and I felt normal again. I was actually able to enjoy myself and have fun! I hope my Arizona friends will give it a try.

  1. I’m so happy you found this place! It was soooo good and I felt fine the next day after having the cashew-based chocolate ice cream!
